2002 Hawai'i Music Awards Winner: Best Latin Album of the Year
=
Gotta' Dance music! Big Smiles- Happy music! All Instrumentals! UltraVibe is Vintage Japanese Exotica of Hawaii. At first blush, the music hardly seems rooted in Hawaiian-Japanese culture. There are songs from China, Indonesia, Korea, the Philippines as well as Japan – all infused with Latin flavor & “pop exotica” images. The tracks were originally laid down & released by 49th State Hawaii Records in stereophonic 33 1/3rd rpm LP sometime in the late 50s. Perhaps they were meant as a tribute to Xavier Cugat, perhaps as homage to exotica pioneers Martin Denny & Arthur Lyman, perhaps as an attempt to broaden the appeal of the album. One thing we know for sure is that UltraVibe is all of these things & more. Cha Cha Cha, Rhumba, Bolero, Mambo, Guaracha, Samba, and even Tango! UltraVibe is fun! This one will have you on your feet in no time, cha-cha-cha-ing all over the house! It’s a time capsule of sorts. An insight into everyday reality & the prevailing “vibes” in Hawaii – “back in the day”.
Ballroom dancing never felt so good! You are going to love it!
