From our friends at Lehua Records we present the legendary Steel
Guitar artist Jerry Byrd! Nostalgia is especially meaningful when it is applied to Hawaiian music, so Jerry
thought it would be good to show how steel guitar sounded in the “old days” – in those times before the
revolutionary introduction of electric guitars, then move on to the first electric, then into modern sounds &
stylings. Jerry plays an old National German silver resonator guitar from the 20’s that belonged to the late Pua
Almeida, the first electric steel guitar called “Fry Pan” made by Rickenbacher in the early 30’s, and then a
much newer double-neck ShoBud steel guitar custom built for Jerry with 7 strings on one neck and 8 on the other.
To keep the sound pure and authentic, all instruments in the band are acoustic and they are played by some of
Hawaii’s finest: Benny Kalama on rhythm guitar & ukulele, Norman Isaacs on upright bass, and Atta Isaacs on 6 &
12 string slack key guitar. It’s a musical trip through Hawaii’s golden years – it’s music to remember. All
instrumental selections. KOHALA
