A twenty-three-song anthology of classic recordings that
accurately portrays the evolution
of the signature sound of Hawaiian music, kika kila, the Hawaiian Steel Guitar.
Follow it’s transformation over four decades, the 1920’S through the 1950’s, from early
acoustic sound to the
electrically amplified sound more familiar to today’s audiences.
All performances feature exceptional Hawaiian
steel guitarists performing in a manner
representative of their era. Together, they represent a credible analysis
of the transition
of the Hawaiian steel guitar through the technological advancements of the instrument, and the
changing musical influences of the players. The recordings were all newly transferred from original sources using
state of the art restoration & digital remastering equipment. The 16 page liner note booklet includes tuning
guidelines, rare previously unpublished photos of all 10 artists, full color photos of 45 rare vintage acoustic
guitars, lap steel guitars, and amplifiers dating from
the mid-1920’s through the early-1950’s, and extensive
historical liner notes including a complete historical annotation of the history of the Hawaiian steel guitar and
biographical information on each artist. The stringed instrument invention was Hawaii’s gift to the world, but
only Hawaiian players possess the Hawaiian homegrown emotional feeling heard in their unique style.
This is where
it all started! It’s raw, gutsy, original, pure & powerful! A “must-buy” for any steel guitar lover or collector
with a total listening time of over 67 minutes.
